![]() If the truck and trailer is more then 11,000 kg combined you can drive it. Ontario Highway Traffic Act states a Class D driver can drive “Any truck or motor vehicle combination exceeding 11,000 kg provided the towed vehicle is not over 4,600 kg” This means, if the truck is over 11,000 kg you can drive it. This is totally untrue! A Class D is not about towing a larger, heavier trailer it is about larger and heavier tow vehicles. Some people seem to think that with a Class D license you can tow a bigger trailer then you can with a Class G. Class D is for bigger trucks, not trailers Once you start considering driving heavier vehicles, the next class people think about is Class D. This is often the standard “drive the family car or pick up truck around” license. Most people start with a Class G license (G1, G2 and then G). We have looked at Class A and AR (restricted) so now is the time to look at the Class D license which often is very misunderstood. ![]() Ontario has several classes of licenses designed for different types of vehicle configurations.
